Gamble lifts Hutchinson
Hutchinson football coach Randy Dreiling knew he would need a big day from Kerry Gamble on Saturday if the Salt Hawks were going to win a second straight Class 6A state championship.

Salina Central 29, Blue Valley 21

Sharp powers Salina Central to title
EMPORIA -- Salina Central wasn't going to beat Blue Valley and win the Class 5A state championship Saturday without a big game from Jake Sharp. But the Mustangs had to finish the job without him -- and did.

Late TD ends Vikings' season

SALINA -- After the Seaman football team returned to the locker room, running back Greg Lott was the only Viking player left on the Salina Stadium field Friday night. But he wasn't the only one with tears in his eyes.

4A

Holton 28, Ulyesses 27 2OT

Holton wins OT thriller
SALINA -- Matt Brock wasn't sure if the title of "hero" really fit him Saturday.
All of Holton may disagree.

Coverage from The Topeka Capital-Journal

Holton's turn

It was only one drive and only accounted for seven points, but Holton's 15-play, 97-yard march on its opening possession was its most important drive of the year in its most important game of the year.

3A

SE-Saline 30, Silver Lake 28

Eagles fall in 3A
After falling behind for the first time in the Class 3A championship game late in the third quarter, Southeast-Saline needed something good to happen.

Opportunistic Silver Lake crushes Rossville 45-13

ROSSVILLE -- It may be one of the hardest things for a football coach to actually coach.
But it's one of the things that's made Silver Lake arguably the best team in Class 3A this season.
Turnovers.

2-1A

Smith Center 36, Colgan 16

Smith Center runs to title
HAYS -- Smith Center rolled over Pittsburg Colgan for 423 rushing yards and nearly doubled the time of possession, thumping Colgan 36-16 at Lewis Field Stadium to claim its second straight Class 2-1A state title.

Coverage from The Topeka Capital-Journal

St. Marys falls short after half

ST. MARYS -- The numbers don't really show why St. Marys' season is over, and Colgan is headed for another Class 2A state title game.

Eight Man Division I

South Barber takes air out of Hope

RUSSELL -- Hope's passing game has been as dangerous as any in Eight-Man football this season.

Yet with winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour during Saturday's Eight-Man I championship game in Russell, the last thing the Lions wanted was to have to rely exclusively on that mode of attack.

Coverage from The Topeka Capital-Journal

Hope returns to Eight-Man I championships

In the last three years, Hope has lost just one game.
But oh what a humbling loss that one was. The Lions were kicked around by Baileyville B&B, falling behind 36-0 in an eventual 48-20 loss.

Eight Man Division II

Waverly wins first state title

RUSSELL -- Palco coach D.J. Basgall called the screen pass "our bread and butter this year."

That particular play turned out to be the meat and potatoes for Waverly's amazing 50-26 come-from-behind win in Saturday's Eight-Man II championship game in Russell.

Coverage from The Topeka Capital-Journal

Bulldogs roll into Eight-Man II tilt

Yes, Saturday's Eight-Man II championship game in Russell is a big game for Waverly.
Maybe the biggest in the Bulldogs' proud history -- one that's included two All-State Top 11 picks and countless playoff appearances and winning seasons.
